Massive point for Wigan

Massive point for Wigan

19 April 2008 - 16:30

Wigan secured a massive point for their Premiership survival challenge after drawing 1-1 with Tottenham thanks to another Emile Heskey goal after the England international forward bagged his second in a space of a week.

  • Chelsea midfielder looking forward to London derby vs Spurs
  • Arsenal in the front row to sign Dutch striker

  • The game took a very frantic start as Aaron Lennon provided a deflected cross into the path of Dimitar Berbatov who fired Spurs ahead.

On 12 minutes, Wigan were back in the game thanks to Emile Heskey, when Kevin Kilbane picked out Chelsea goal hero Heskey, who turned superbly to rifle past the keeper as Didier Zokora and Jamie O'Hara tried desperately to get in the block.

A mistake from Dimitar Berbatov on the half hour mark very nearly let Wigan in. The Bulgarian gave the ball away very cheaply to Valencia, who played the ball onto Marcus Bent. The striker’s effort though was hit straight at Cerny in the Tottenham goal.

The game did start to fizzle out a little, and Wigan could've made their way back into the game when Wilson Palacios slid a superb ball to the unmarked Bent but, with only the keeper to beat, he smashed his shot against the crossbar.
