Chelsea have jumped ahead of Manchester United in the race to sign Sevilla defender Jules Kounde this summer.
The Frenchman had an impressive 2020/21 campaign for Sevilla, registering four goals and one assist from 49 appearances.
His progress has caught the eye of Chelsea and United while a number of other European clubs are also keeping tabs.
According to ABC Sevila, the Blues are now considered favourites to land Kounde with United reluctant to spend big.
Kounde's contract has a €80m buy-out clause, but Sevilla are prepared to accept around €65m to sanction his sale.
Chelsea and United have also been linked with Raphael Varane with the uncertainty surrounding his future.
The Real Madrid defender has one year remaining on his contract, and he is reportedly keen on a fresh challenge.
The Blues are likely to recruit at least three players this summer. Their main priority for the transfer window remains an elite striker.
