Manchester United could be without Scott McTominay and Fred for this weekend's Premier League clash against Newcastle United.

  • The Red Devils have made a good beginning to the new campaign, amassing seven points from the opening three matches.

Ahead of the Magpies game, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer provided a team news update where he confirmed potential absentees.

Fred has been suspended by FIFA for five days after the Red Devils blocked his departure for international duty with Brazil.

He is unlikely to feature against the Magpies. Meanwhile, McTominay could also miss the encounter after a groin surgery.

The Scot has returned to training this week, but Solskjaer said that it may be impossible for him to make the matchday squad.

In the absence of the duo, either Nemanja Matic or Donny van de Beek could partner Paul Pogba in the centre of the park.

Considering Van de Beek's struggles for game time under Solskjaer, Matic seems the likely candidate to accompany the Frenchman.
