Takehiro Tomiyasu is set to make his Arsenal debut when they host Norwich City in the Premier League tomorrow.
The Japan international was the Gunners' last signing of the summer transfer window. He joined from Bologna for £15.5m.
Earlier on Thursday, manager Mikel Arteta confirmed that the defender could make his debut on Saturday if the club receive his work permit.
The visa application has now been successful. The 22-year-old is widely expected to start in the right-back position tomorrow.
Tomiyasu is more defensive-minded. He previously impressed at Bologna with his tackling, aerial ability and long-range distribution.
He has the gifted ability to play with either foot which may pose concern for the opposition defence, if he can deliver early crosses.
The Gunners are rooted to the bottom of the standings with zero points after three matches into the new Premier League season.
They will be desperate for a win tomorrow. Anything less than that may lead to serious scrutiny over Mikel Arteta's managerial role.
