German forward Timo Werner was reportedly keen on joining Manchester United before making the move to Chelsea.
The 25-year-old joined the Blues from Leipzig last summer after being linked with some of Europe's elite clubs including United.
Werner has since struggled to find consistency in the final third. He has scored just once in his previous 12 appearances for the Blues
According to Bild, Werner had the preference to join the Red Devils, who were his favourite club from his childhood days.
The Mancunian giants were willing to offer him £13m per year in wages, but ultimately, a deal did not materialise with Leipzig.
Liverpool were also keen on landing him after a secret meeting, but the Blues were quick to seal a transfer agreement for him.
Werner has netted just 13 goals during his 15 months with the Blues, and he is currently in-and-out of the starting line-up.
There has been speculation that he could leave the club next year. Bayern Munich are looking at the possibility of signing him.
