Cech: we were lucky

Cech: we were lucky

22 April 2008 - 21:22

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech has admitted that the Blues were very lucky after a John Arne Riise gaffe gave the Stamford Bridge side a hugely important away goal in the Champions League semi final between the two sides.

  • Arsenal handed injury boost on defender ahead of Bournemouth clash
  • Chelsea planning shock move for Man City winger?

  • "We've been unlucky in our last two semi-finals here, This time we got a lucky goal, but to be fair, we played until the last second - we pushed - and we deserved it."

Cech was in inspired form as he managed to rescue the Blues with a couple of dramatic saves from Liverpool frontman Fernando Torres.

Chelsea team mate Frank Lampard said of Cech afterward: "I think he was fantastic," enthused the England international. "Big Pete, for us, is the best goalkeeper in the world.

"He showed that, he showed great character. He's the unluckiest man in the world with his injuries, but he keeps coming back and when he comes back he's even better."
