The Gunners signed Albert Sambi Lokonga from Anderlecht this summer, but they were widely fancied to sign another top-class midfielder.

It was anticipated that Granit Xhaka was leaving the club, but in the end, he stayed put and signed a new long-term contract.

According to football.london, the Gunners could address their midfield department next summer with player departures expected.

Mohamed Elneny is due to leave on a free transfer while Ainsley Maitland-Niles could also head for the exit door amid game time concerns.

Ruiz has been a long term target for Real Madrid, but reports claim that the Gunners have entered the pursuit of the Spain international.

Ruiz has made a positive start to the campaign for Napoli with two goals and two assists from nine appearances across all competitions.

He has a contract until June 2023. The Naples outfit may look to sanction his sale next summer if he does not accept an extension.
