Manchester United could turn their attention to Monaco's Aurelien Tchouameni amid West Ham United's hefty valuation for Declan Rice.
Rice has been a long-term target for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but the Hammers are reluctant to sell him for less than £100m.
The Red Devils are unlikely to meet the price tag, and The Mirror claims that they could focus on landing Tchouameni instead.
The 21-year-old has made immense progress at Monaco over the past 18 months, and he is now a regular with France.
He has developed into a quality box-to-box midfielder recently, and United see him as a replacement for Paul Pogba next summer.
Pogba has entered the final eight months of his contract, and reports claim that he has no plans of signing a new deal with the club.
Tchouameni has been identified as a like-for-like replacement by United, and he could be available for a fee of around £35-40 million.
They will face plenty of competition for his services, Bayern Munich, Juventus and Chelsea are also interested in signing him.
