Manchester United are close to finalising the transfer of Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez, according to The Guardian.
The Argentina international has already agreed personal terms with United, and they are now in the process of negotiating a fee.
A deal worth £46 million is likely to be finalised soon, and it is reported that Martinez could join the Red Devils by the weekend.
United initially wanted Martinez before their pre-season tour, but they are now confident that he will be involved in the final phase.
Aside from Martinez, United have been pressing to sign Frenkie de Jong from Barcelona. While a fee has been agreed, a transfer is far off.
De Jong is not keen on prospect of joining the club this summer, and appears determined to stay with the Catalan giants next season.
The Netherlands star wants to be playing Champions League football, and does not see himself making the move to Old Trafford.
United may have to look elsewhere to bolster their midfield.
