William Saliba quiet on Arsenal exit rumours

Arsenal defender William Saliba, who is currently touring the United States with his club, has told the club's reporters that he was happy with his performances on loan at Marseille last season, but he wants more. The Gunners are yet to persuade Saliba to sign a new deal, and the Frenchman is expected to play an important part of Arsenal's first team squad this season.

  • Mikel Arteta insists 27yo star won't be leaving Arsenal
  • Omari Hutchinson wants to continue at Ipswich Town

  • With three loan spells under his belt, Saliba has finally returned to the Emirates Stadium and now looks set to become a regular under manager Mikel Arteta.

After winning young player of the year in France, Saliba has been touted as one of the best defenders in Europe.

Saliba quipped: “When I was on loan I watched every single [Arsenal] game because when I was there some players weren’t. I watched the games to see how they played, so when I was back it would be easier to play with those I hadn’t met before.

“It’s important that the fans are behind you, and I like it very much. I can’t wait to give back to them.

“My plan is to fight and work with the team, win as much as possible, and grow more.

“It feels good to be back and starting pre-season. I’m so excited to continue training and playing in the friendly games. It’s important to be here with the fans, as well as my teammates. I hope we’ll enjoy some good training and games which is important before the start of the season.”

Saliba has yet to sign a three year extension to his current deal - that is currently waiting for the defender's final decision.
