Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has confirmed that the club are looking to sign a defensive midfielder this summer.
The Red Devils have been active during the transfer window, and have already signed Tyrell Malacia, Christian Eriksen and Lisandro Martinez.
They are expected to make more signings in the coming days, and Ten Hag has confirmed that a new holding midfielder is a priority for the club.
Speaking in today's press conference, he said: "We are looking for a player who can play in the holding midfield position but it has to be the right one."
It is widely known that Frenkie de Jong is the priority target for Ten Hag for the number six role, but a move depends on the midfielder.
United recently agreed a fee of around £72m for De Jong with Barcelona, but the 25-year-old has yet to agree personal terms with them.
De Jong is reluctant to do so until Barcelona pay his deferred wages worth £17.1m. This saga could go down to the wire, as things stand.
