Chelsea have confirmed that midfielder N'Golo Kante will be sidelined for four months after sustaining a hamstring injury.
The Frenchman picked up the problem against Tottenham Hotspur in mid-August but was anticipated to return this month.
However, Kante suffered another recurrence of the same muscle injury and he has now undergone a surgery to rectify the issue.
Chelsea have now released a formal statement regarding the same and have confirmed that he will be out of action for four months.
The news will come as a huge blow for the west London giants, who have been heavily reliant on the Frenchman in their midfield.
He has been pivotal to their silverware success over the years, but the Blues may now seriously consider his future at the club.
Kante's current deal expires at the end of the season and it is unlikely that a renewal will be agreed unless he accepts a huge pay-cut.
Aside from Kante, Reece James and Wesley Fofana are injured for Chelsea.
