RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner has been ruled out of the World Cup after sustaining an ankle ligament injury on Wednesday.

  • Chelsea midfielder looking forward to London derby vs Spurs
  • Arsenal in the front row to sign Dutch striker

  • The German rejoined the Bundesliga outfit from Chelsea over the summer and he has since registered nine goals and four assists from 16 games.

Unfortunately, he won't be representing his country at the World Cup finals, having suffered a setback against Shakhtar Donetsk on Wednesday.

The 26-year-old went down holding his ankle in the 19th minute of the game and was soon replaced Emil Forsberg. Leipzig went on to win 4-0.

Leipzig have now confirmed that Werner has suffered a serious ankle injury which is expected to sideline him for the remainder of the year.

A statement read: "Scans today in Leipzig showed that he has unfortunately torn the syndesmosis ligament in his left ankle. Timo Werner will therefore be out for the rest of 2022."

The news will come as a huge blow for the German national side. Werner has been one of their leading stars and will be a big miss at the World Cup.
