Chelsea manager Graham Potter has clarified that Christian Pulisic was not expected to leave the club before his knee injury.
The USA international had a superb World Cup campaign in Qatar and it was claimed that he could be loaned out on his return.
Arsenal and Manchester United were linked with his services, but a move is no longer possible. Pulisic is out for two months with a fresh injury.
Speaking to reporters, Potter has now clarified that Pulisic was not leaving the club in any case. The forward is working on his recovery.
He said: "We never considered anything about that [a loan] anyway but he is a couple of months out. Yes, he is disappointed."
"He is optimistic about coming back quicker than two months. He is in that phase with his fingers crossed and hoping his rehab goes well."
Chelsea have been in a dreadful run of form in the Premier League and they are currently 10th in the standings with just 25 points.
