Predicted Man Utd line-up (4-2-3-1) vs Barcelona, Casemiro starts

16 February 2023 - 16:26

Manchester United face Barcelona at the Camp Nou in the first leg of the Europa League knockout play-off tonight.

  • Chelsea expected to sell striker after loan deal
  • Arsenal defender misses training ahead of Man Utd game

  • The Red Devils have not beaten the Catalans in the last four meetings and will be aiming to end the streak on the road.

    Predicted Line-up:

David de Gea has been ever-present in the Premier League and Europa League games for United and he is expected to continue between the sticks against Barcelona.

At the back, there could be a solitary change from the 2-0 win at Leeds. Harry Maguire should make way for Raphael Varane to partner Luke Shaw in central defence. Lisandro Martinez is suspended.

Diogo Dalot and Tyrell Malacia are expected to start in the right and left-back positions respectively. In midfield, Casemiro is set to return after missing the last two top-flight matches.

He still has another one game domestic ban, but the Brazilian is eligible to play in Europe. He is expected to start alongside Fred. Marcel Sabitzer is serving a one-game European suspension.

In attack, it should be the same front four from the Elland Road game. Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford should start on the wings with Bruno Fernandes in his usual number 10 spot.

Wout Weghorst has just two goal involvements in eight matches, but he is expected to lead the line again with Anthony Martial injured. The Dutchman has a big point to prove at Camp Nou.

Predicted Man Utd line-up (4-2-3-1): De Gea; Dalot, Varane, Shaw, Malacia; Casemiro, Fred; Sancho, Fernandes, Rashford; Weghorst.
