Manchester United were ready to pay €85 million for Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong last summer, as per Mundo Deportivo.
The Red Devils had earmarked the Dutchman as their priority midfield target last summer after the recommendation from manager Erik ten Hag.
However, they were unsuccessful in pushing through a deal. While Barcelona accepted their proposal of €85m, De Jong had no plans to leave.
Ten Hag tried to convince his former Ajax star over a transfer but the 25-year-old was adamant that he did not want to pursue a fresh challenge.
Ten Hag continues to be interested in signing the Netherlands star but it appears unlikely that he will move on from the Catalan giants.
De Jong is clearly happy with the proceedings at Barcelona and does not see himself leaving his dream club anytime soon, as per reports.
The midfielder recently talked about his future. He said that he would like to spend another eight years with the La Liga leaders.
