Manchester United youngster Kobbie Mainoo sustained an ankle injury during the club's 2-0 friendly defeat to Real Madrid.
The 18-year-old has been in superb form for the Red Devils in pre-season, and he was rewarded with a starting role against Madrid.
However, he got injured after less than two minutes on the clock following a reckless and cynical challenge from Casemiro on Rodrygo.
The Brazil international pushed his compatriot to the ground. In the process, Rodrygo's bodyweight made contact with Mainoo's left foot.
Mainoo needed assistance to hobble off the field, and it remains to be seen whether he has avoided a potential long-term injury.
The United graduate was spotted leaving the stadium in a protective boot, and further tests could be made in the next few days.
Mainoo has been a revelation for the Red Devils in recent weeks, and he will be bitterly disappointed by the unfortunate setback.
Erik ten Hag has already made the decision to block his loan exit.
