Chelsea's Torres bid rejected

13 May 2008 - 13:59

Reports from Spain suggest that Chelsea have had a huge bid for Fernando Torres rejected.

  • Chelsea winger suffers head injury vs Nottingham Forest
  • Man Utd star preparing farewell video ahead of transfer
  • Spanish sports paper Marca reports that Roman Abramovich now sees Torres as his number one target, but a bit of 50 million euros was turned down out of hand by the Merseyside club. It is thought that the reds refused to negotiate or to name a price for the young striker.

El Nino signed for Liverpool last summer in a deal worth about £20m plus Luis Garcia, so this bid would see Liverpool rake in a very good profit on the Spanish star. However, if the club has any ambitions of winning trophies, it will not want to sell its best players. It would also be suicide to sell players to such fierce rivals. Torres broke Ruud van Nistelrooy's record for the most goals by a foreigner in their first season in the Premier League.
