Chelsea's busy summer of transfer madness took an unexpected turn this evening, as Cole Palmer appears to have agreed a transfer to leave Man City in favour of Stamford Bridge in a deal worth £45 million. Palmer caught the eye during City's loss to Arsenal in the Community Shield earlier in the season, but ultimately the club have decided to cash in on the prospect.
The 21-year-old has agreed personal terms with the Blues and will be announced tomorrow, on transfer deadline day, as Chelsea's newest acquisition. The player instructed his agent to help push through a deal, and a bid of £35 million had been rejected by the Etihad Stadium outfit on Wednesday. However, a new offer quickly followed.
Chelsea have been signing numerous players this summer, particularly younger talents, and signing them to long-term contracts of around seven or eight years. A move to Palmer is expected to follow that trend.
It is understood that Joe Shields, who previously worked at Man City and is Chelsea's newest director of recruitment, helped ensure the deal would complete smoothly.
