Fulham sign Steven Benda

Keeper joins Fulham

Fulham sign Steven Benda

31 August 2023 - 04:17

Steven Benda has made the move to Fulham to play as backup to Bernd Leno at Craven Cottage. Benda, who is Leno's fellow countryman, has previously had spells with Swansea City, Swindon Town and Peterborough United, and the 24-year-old has signed a long-term deal with his new club, for a transfer fee of £5.5 million.

  • Earlier in the year, Benda sustained a nasty injury while playing for Swansea City but has recovered sufficiently to make the move to Fulham. The Premier League side expect that Benda will learn from current first-choice Leno and eventually become the club's first choice keeper.

"I'm really happy. It's a massive club with a lot of history and tradition, so I'm really happy to be here," Benda said.

"Just look at this stadium, and the club itself, playing for Marco Silva, it was a very easy decision."

In signing Benda, Fulham have beaten several other teams to the goalkeeper's signature, including a reported last minute offer from Manchester United, so this deal is seen as a significant coup.
