Lens striker Elye Wahi has confirmed that he turned down a move to Chelsea during the summer transfer window.
The Frenchman had a good 2022/23 season with Montpellier in Ligue 1. He scored 19 goals and provided six assists.
Chelsea were keen on landing his services with a view to loaning him out to Strasbourg, but Wahi snubbed the chance.
Wahi told L'Equipe: "I did not want to sign for Chelsea just for the sake of it. Frankfurt was close — and more than Chelsea."
The Blues signed Nicolas Jackson and Christopher Nkunku last summer to bolster their centre-forward department.
Nkunku has yet to make his competitive debut for the club, having suffered a serious knee injury during pre-season.
Jackson has started in each of the club's opening four games of the new season, but he has just one goal to his name.
Chelsea could invest on another striker in the winter transfer window if Jackson fails to live up to his expectations.
