Erik ten Hag explains Mason Mount's substitution

27 September 2023 - 19:55

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has revealed that Mason Mount was substituted at half-time against Crystal Palace as a precaution.

  • Arsenal leading the race to sign 22yo Dutch striker
  • Chelsea eyeing move for Leicester City manager?

  • The England international made his comeback from a hamstring injury during the third round of the Carabao Cup at Old Trafford last night.

Mount provided an assist for Casemiro's goal in the first half, but he was not involved when the Red Devils came out for the second half.

Speaking after the game, Ten Hag confirmed that the decision was precautionary, considering he has just returned from a long injury.

He said: "Definitely [we substituted him as a precaution]. Before he's returning from an  injury and we have to build this up."

"And when we go too quickly, you get the drop. And we want to avoid that. And I think his performance was very good."

Mount is likely to make the starting line-up against Palace in the Premier League on Saturday. He should last for more than 45 minutes.

The Red Devils are currently on nine points after six games into the season and should fancy another victory over the Eagles at home.
