Manchester United are prepared to battle it out with Liverpool to sign Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi next summer.
The Red Devils were keen on landing a new centre-back over the summer, but their plan was dashed by Harry Maguire.
They were prepared to part ways with Maguire to recoup funds, but the Englishman decided to stay put at the club.
As a result, they could not invest in the central defensive department, but the club are likely to make a fresh move next year.
According to Football Insider, the club have identified Guehi as their top target for next summer, but will face competition.
Liverpool are also interested in signing the former Chelsea man, who has been touted to become an England regular soon.
Guehi has been one of Palace's best performers over the past 18 months and he could secure a bigger challenge very soon.
Palace are likely to demand in upwards of £50m for him. The Blues will be owed 20 per cent of the sell-on transfer fee.
