Preview: Rangers vs Zenit

14 May 2008 - 17:11

Thousands of Scottish fans have headed for Manchester today for the UEFA Cup Final between Rangers and Zenit St. Petersburg. In what is to be a cracking game, Zenit boss Dick Advocaat will go head to head with his former club looking to bring European glory to the Russian side.

  • Chelsea & Arsenal handed blow in Bundesliga striker pursuit

  • The City of Manchester Stadium is the venue, and two fantastic sides prepare to go head to head desperately in search of European glory.

Zenit are new on the European scene, and their best effort previously was in 2006 when they made the quarter finals of the UEFA Competition.

Rangers on the other hand have battled tooth and nail to get the final, and a couple of shock victories over Sporting Lisbon and Fiorentina showed they deserve to make the final.

Zenit boss Advocaat took current Rangers boss Walter Smith's place at Rangers many seasons ago, and now the Dutchman will have an emotional reunion with the Gers.

Zenit have the impressive pair of Alejando Dominguez and Andrei Arshavin, whilst Nacho Novo has been a beacon for Rangers this season both in domestic and European competition.

Rangers have kept 12 clean sheets in European games this season and know that one more will put them a step closer to European glory.
