Manchester United are reportedly interested in a deal for Barcelona target and Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi.
The Red Devils bolstered their midfield department over the summer with the purchases of Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat.
Both Mount and Amrabat have had a fair share of playing time, but the club are still looking into the future with another signing.
Casemiro has been below-par with his performances in his second year at United and there are claims that he could leave next summer.
In that case, the club will require a quality replacement and Zubimendi has been earmarked as a top target for manager Erik ten Hag.
Barcelona are also admirers of the defensive midfielder, but they are unlikely to compete financially with United for him.
Zubimendi is currently protected by a €60m release clause in his contract and United may have to trigger the clause to sign him.
The Spaniard has also been on the radar of Premier League rivals Arsenal.
