Manchester United are interested in signing Real Betis midfielder Guido Rodriguez following a hamstring injury for Casemiro.
The Red Devils have had Casemiro as their mainstay in the holding midfield role, but he is currently out with a hamstring problem.
The Brazilian is expected to only return in January and he may need a few more weeks in order to return to full match sharpness.
With this mind, manager Erik ten Hag has urged the club to sign a new number six as he is not satisfied with Sofyan Amrabat and Scott McTominay.
Rodriguez has been highlighted as the prime target for the manager, and he could be prised away for a low fee at the turn of the year.
The Argentine was previously on the radar of Inter and Seville last summer, but turned them down to continue with the La Liga outfit.
He wanted to stay put due to the birth of his first child. United are hopeful of luring him to Old Trafford with a lucrative contract offer.
