Portugal national team coach Luiz Felipe Scolari has hailed Cristiano Ronaldo as the best in the world at the moment.

  • Ronaldo is a Portuguese international and the one big hope that Portugal heavily rely on as they prepare for the Euro 2008 finals in Austria and Switzerland next month. Brazilian Scolari has lauded Ronaldo for his consistently brilliant display throughout the season for his club side Manchester United and has underlined his importance for Portugal during the European Championship next month.

Cristiano Ronaldo indeed has been in sensational form this season for the Red Devils. He has accumulated a total of 41 goals in all competitions this season and shall lead Man United’s charge against Chelsea in the UEFA Champions league final next week in Moscow.

Ronaldo has broken all sorts of records this season and his goal-scoring prowess has been at the heart of his game. With his tricks and flicks down the wings, Ronaldo has been utterly unstoppable at times and all this has persuaded his national team coach Big Phil to remarks that Ronaldo is certainly the best player on the planet.

    Big Phil said:

“According to me, Ronaldo is the best player in the world. And I hope that he will not just be the best with Manchester United, but also with the national side during Euro. Ronaldo has come on a lot as not only a player, but also and especially as a human being.

“However, the national side is not just dependant on Cristiano Ronaldo. If that was the case it would hardly be worth playing in the finals.”

Nevertheless there’s no denying that Cristiano Ronaldo indeed is the ace for the Portugal team that is beginning a new era. In the absence of the retired Rui Costa and Luis Figo and other members of the Portuguese Golden Generation, it is on the shoulders of players like Cristiano Ronaldo and Simao Sabrosa that the entire nation rests its hopes and dreams on.
