Barca to sign the Matrix?

According to emerging transfer speculation reports in Spain, Spanish and European giants FC Barcelona are lining up a bid to sign the Inter Milan defender Marco Materazzi.

Materazzi, popularly known as Matrix, has been rumoured to be unhappy at Inter Milan. More importantly, it is thought that the club themselves are unhappy with the player's performance this season and are open to offers for the Italian international.



Materazzi missed most of the first half of the 2007-2008 season with a thigh injury and has been in a woeful form in 2008. Inter Milan coach Roberto Mancini is not too eager to keep the centre back in his plans for next season.



Barcelona on the other hand are set to renovate their squad in the summer and incoming coach Josep Guardiola is looking to sign defenders in the summer first.



Central defender Gabriel Milito is out for nine months and both Lilian Thuram and Zianluca Zambrotta are set to depart from the Camp Nou this summer.
