Virgil van Dijk accepts responsibility for Liverpool blunder vs Arsenal

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk has accepted responsibility after Gabriel Martinelli was gifted Arsenal's second Premier League goal at the Emirates Stadium earlier today.

  • The Reds were poor over 90 minutes and they registered just one shot on target. The club were completely outplayed in the first half but went into the break 1-1 after a mishap at the back for Arsenal.

    Just when it looked like they could push for the winner, Van Dijk's poor decision making lead to a big error. Alisson missed his kick just outside the box before Martinelli scored into an empty net.

    Speaking after the game, the Dutch star admitted that he should have cleared his lines and he is the only one to blame for the blunder, he told Sky Sports:

    "A tough day. I think the 2-1 [Martinelli's goal] I take full responsibility for that. That is a big moment in the game. I should have made a better decision - it hurts for me."
