Chelsea made a shock approach to sign Liverpool striker Darwin Nunez last summer, according to The Times.
The Uruguayan joined the Merseyside giants from Benfica in the summer of 2022 and had a decent debut season with 15 goals and four assists from 42 games.
He has fared much better this term with 13 goals and 11 assists thus far. The 24-year-old appears to be finding his feet for the Reds after a period of transition.
It is now reported that the Blues were interested in a surprise deal for Nunez last summer as they sought to land a marquee striker ahead of this season.
However, their proposal was immediately snubbed by the Reds, who were confident that the striker would prove successful for them in the long run.
Nunez recently missed the game against Luton Town with a minor issue, but he is anticipated to return for the Carabao Cup final versus Chelsea.
Despite missing key players such as Alisson and Trent Alexander-Arnold with injuries, the Reds remain favourites to beat the Blues at Wembley.
