Manchester City are ready to compete with Manchester United to sign Everton centre-back Jarrad Branthwaite this summer.
The Cityzens have plenty of central defenders in the squad, but manager Pep Guardiola is eyeing more quality ahead of next season.
Branthwaite is one of the top names on his radar and Daily Mail claim that the club will offer stiff competition to United in the race.
United have identified Branthwaite as their number one centre-back target and the new management are convinced over his potential.
Everton are ready to sell him for a fee of around £75 million. It is left to be seen whether United can beat their arch-rivals to his services.
City are almost guaranteed Champions League football next season and they would offer Branthwaite with the assurance of trophies.
On the other hand, United face a tough fight to qualify for the Champions League and there is no guarantee of silverware at the club.
Despite this, United have a big history and reputation behind them. Branthwaite is likely to be tempted to join the Red Devils.
