Schalke bid for Bakircioglu

18 May 2008 - 17:53

German side Schalke 04 have made a large offer for Swedish international midfielder Kennedy Bakircioglu. The winger has been playing for Dutch giants Ajax Amsterdam since last summer, but a big money move to the Bundesliga could be on the way.

  • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
  • Arsenal suffer big injury blow ahead of Fulham game
  • Bakircioglu has been a key member of Ajax's team this year in the Eredivisie, but incoming coach Marco van Basten is believed to be looking to rebuild his midfield, and this could be at the expense of Bakircioglu.

The reports mentioned no transfer fee, but a figure in the region of around £5 million is expected to be enough to allow the former Twente man to leave.

Bakircioglu was believed to be a cert for Sweden's Euro 2008 squad, but coach Lars Lagerback opted to leave him as the one man reserve for the summer tournament.
