Robert Sanchez could become the first-choice goalkeeper under new manager Enzo Maresca next season, according to reports.
The Spaniard was signed by the Blues from Brighton & Hove Albion last summer and he was an undisputed starter in the early months.
However, an injury contributed to Djordje Petrovic getting his chance and the Serbian managed to keep his place under Mauricio Pochettino.
Sanchez was unhappy with Pochettino's handling of the situation, but he could get a fresh lease of life at Chelsea under Maresca next term.
Maresca really likes the attributes of the 26-year-old and he has informed Chelsea that he would prefer to keep him in the club's ranks.
It is also expected that Sanchez will reclaim his position between the sticks ahead of Petrovic, who had a mixed run of performances earlier this year.
Petrovic was brilliant with his distribution to his defenders, but he was somewhat vulnerable when it came to shots inside the box.
