Reina and Torres not leaving

Reina and Torres not leaving

20 May 2008 - 13:32

Liverpool goalkeeper Jose Reina has affirmed that neither nor his Spanish compatriot Fernando Torres are even remotely interested in signing off from Anfield this summer.

  • Chelsea midfielder looking forward to London derby vs Spurs
  • Arsenal in the front row to sign Dutch striker

  • Both Reina and Torres have been reported to be on their way out of Anfield according to reports in Spain and England. Madrid based Spanish sports daily Marca reported that Chelsea were planning a €50 million bid for Torres.

There were also mild transfer speculation that Reina was wanted by Fernando Torres' former club Atletico Madrid in the summer but the player himself has squash those rumours along with the ones linking Torres to Chelsea.

    Reina told Diario de Sevilla:

"I don’t think Fernando wants to leave and, most of all, I don’t think that Liverpool want to negotiate.

"I think that those stories are typical at such a time, when the championships are over. Obviously big players will be chased by great teams, but I think that he considers [Liverpool] are a great club.

“I can tell you for sure that Liverpool, for €50 million, will neither sit down nor negotiate.

"My family and me are very happy in England. At the moment, we are going to stay here for a longer time, enjoying this marvellous football."

Fernando Torres has been at Anfield only since last summer and has just finished a phenonenal first season with the Merseyside club. Reina was signed by Rafael Benitez in 2005 from Villarreal and is now firmly established as the first choice custodian for Liverpool.
