  • The result leaves Spain level on points at the top of Group F. In the 14th minute the breakthrough came as Joaquín skipped down the right of the penalty area and, after riding a tackle from Dzintars Zirnis, rolled the ball across the face of goal for Xavi to fire home from point blank range. It was Xavi's 50th cap for the Spanish side.

Iniesta came on and his introduction spurred Spain on. The Barcelona player cut the ball back for Miguel Ángel Angulo, and the Valencia player then saw his shot parried by the keeper and Torres reacted to the rebound to roll home from ten yards out.
