Manchester United are interested in signing Monaco midfielder Youssouf Fofana after missing out on Paris Saint-Germain's Manuel Ugarte.
Ugarte agreed personal terms with the Red Devils earlier last month, but the club have decided against pursuing his signature, as per David Ornstein.
The Red Devils are not in a position to afford the €60 million price tag and they have decided to look at alternative targets in the near future.
Sky Sports claim that Fofana is one of those on their radar.
The Frenchman looked destined to move to AC Milan at the start of the summer, but the scenario has completely changed recently.
Monaco have increased their price tag from €15m to €35m amid fresh interest. This has reportedly put Milan off from signing him.
United and Atletico Madrid are now the leading contenders for his signature and there could be a bidding battle between the UCL giants.
Fofana is expected to leave Monaco this summer. He has entered the final year of his contract and has no plans of penning a renewal.
