Manchester United remain optimistic of landing the signature of Manuel Ugarte from Paris Saint-Germain before the transfer window closes on August 30, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Red Devils are searching for a new defensive midfielder and Ugarte is the priority target. The club are unwilling to meet the £60m price tag to sign him, but they remain in the race for his services.
PSG recently landed the signature of Joao Neves from Benfica for £60m and they may want to recoup the fee spent with an exit. Ugarte seems the likely candidate to leave as they play in the same positions.
Les Parisiens have not changed their stance at the moment, but the scenario could be different heading into the final days of the window. United could sign him for a reduced transfer package.
There is also the possibility that Les Parisiens could open the door for a loan deal with an obligation to buy at the end of the next campaign.
