Manchester United have reportedly held talks with former Atletico Madrid defender Mario Hermoso over a free transfer.
The Red Devils recently confirmed the arrival of Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich. He is their second centre-back signing this summer after Leny Yoro.
Despite this, they continue to be linked with central defenders and The Athletic claim that executives from the club met with Hermoso in Madrid last week.
However, nothing materialised from the meeting and the club are not looking to sign him at the moment. The scenario could change in the coming days.
Victor Lindelof has been linked with a move away from Old Trafford. He has entered the last year of his deal and could be sold in the near future.
If the Swede were to head for the exit door, it could pave the way for the arrival of Hermoso, who can also operate from the left side of the defence.
Hermoso is eyeing an affordable salary of around £99,000 per week.
