Manchester United have opened talks with Chelsea over the prospect of swapping Jadon Sancho for Raheem Sterling, according to The Telegraph.

  • Arsenal to hijack Chelsea deal for English winger?
  • Arsenal & Chelsea battling to sign Ajax defender

  • The Red Devils are determined to offload Sancho before the transfer deadline and they prefer a permanent move for the England international.

Chelsea are known to be interested in the 24-year-old and it is claimed that United sporting director Dan Ashworth has made contact with them.

Ashworth has confirmed the Red Devils' interest in Sterling, but the club are only willing to sign him as a makeweight in a deal for Sancho.

Hence, the Blues will need to pay a transfer fee on top of Sterling.

Meanwhile, the swap deal could also depend on pay-cuts. Both Sancho and Sterling will need to accept huge reduction in their salaries.

United have had a busy summer transfer window. They have already signed Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt and Noussair Mazraoui.

Manuel Ugarte is expected to join them in the next 24 hours. They could complete a successful window with the acquisition of Sterling.
