Arsenal are expected to make a renewed move for Espanyol goalkeeper Joan Garcia next year, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Gunners offloaded Aaron Ramsdale to Southampton last week and they had identified Garcia as the ideal replacement.
However, they could not secure an agreement before the transfer deadline.
Arsenal were willing to pay €20m plus add-ons for the shot-stopper, but Espanyol were adamant over their own transfer demands.
The La Liga outfit refused to part ways with the 23-year-old unless the Gunners were prepared to trigger his €30m release clause.
Mikel Arteta's side eventually opted to sign Neto on loan from Bournemouth, but they have not ruled out a future move for Garcia.
Romano claims that the Gunners could return for the Olympic gold medalist in either January or at the end of the campaign.
Espanyol were able to convince the shot-stopper to stay, but Garcia is likely to push for a bigger challenge at some point next year.
