Donadoni: I Did Call Inzaghi

21 May 2008 - 13:27

Italy national football team coach Roberto Donadoni has insisted that he did call AC Milan striker Filippo Inzaghi on Monday to inform him that he was not included in his squad for the Euro 2008 finals.

  • Fabrizio Romano updates on Nicolas Jackson's future at Chelsea
  • Arsenal suffer big injury blow ahead of Fulham game
  • Milan striker Pippo Inzaghi was quoted as saying that he was shocked and devastated by Donadoni's stance not even to make a customary call and inform his of his Euro fate. Inzaghi is heavily tipped to make the provisional 24-man Italy squad that Roberto Donadoni announced on Tuesday afternoon after scoring 10 goals in 7 matches at the end of the season.

    Inzaghi was quoted as saying:

"Evidently my injury was enough to mean that I didn’t even deserve a phone call and to cancel out what I thought was a mature, adult relationship."

Donadoni has now retorted to the allegation that he didn't even ring the Milan and brushed off this alleged accusations by saying:

"I called him on Monday evening to explain the reasons for the choice, both technical and non-human.

"He was disappointed, but this kind of reaction is understandable."

Donadoni named a 24-man provisional squad on Tuesday in which he included both Alessandro del Piero and Antonio Cassano.
