Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has said that Bruno Fernandes was unlucky to be sent off against Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League.
The Red Devils suffered a heavy 3-0 loss to Spurs at Old Trafford earlier today where Fernandes was red-carded before the half-time break.
The Portuguese slipped into a tackle against James Maddison with his studs up. He made the slightest of contacts, but it was enough to be sent off.
Speaking after the game, Ten Hag said that United made a very bad start, but the red card changed everything and made it more difficult.
He said: "A very bad start from us. The red card changed everything as it was still 1-0 but we are down to 10 and it makes it difficult. I don't think it is a red card, but the decision is made."
With the result, United have dropped to 12th in the league standings and they are six points behind the Champions League spots.
The margin could potentially increase next weekend as United have a tough-looking game against Aston Villa away from home.
