Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has reportedly urged the hierarchy to sign Barcelona midfielder Frenkie de Jong this winter.
The Dutch tactician was keen on a reunion with the Netherlands international in 2022 after he was appointed as United's head coach.
A transfer fee was finalised between the clubs after a number of face-to-face meetings, but De Jong refused to agree personal terms.
Ten Hag has not given up on reuniting with his former star and Sport claim that he is keen on bringing him to Old Trafford in January.
De Jong has just recovered from an ankle injury which kept him on the sidelines from April. He was absent for Euro 2024 too.
He has no intention to leave the Catalan giants for a new challenge next year, but it would come as a surprise if United sign him.
There is a high possibility that Ten Hag may not be at the club by January if he can't improve the club's current form in the league.
United are currently 14th in the division with only eight points.
