Alonso to Juventus?

Alonso to Juventus?

22 May 2008 - 14:05

According to the British newspaper The Guardian, Juventus are set to scoop Xabi Alonso out of Liverpool before long. The paper reports that the Old Lady of Turin have commenced talks with the Merseyside club.

  • Mauricio Pochettino confirms fresh injury blow for Chelsea star
  • Arsenal want to make four marquee signings this summer

  • The Spanish international central midfielder has been under a lot of speculation this season. He was dropped at times from the squad by Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez and was said to be a liability at Anfield.

But Alonso has consistently squashed all transfer speculation, always maintaining that he is happy at Anfield. In a recent interview with Sky Sports, the former Real Sociedad midfielder said that he shall play for Liverpool as long as the club wants him to.

Now it's emerged that Liverpool gaffer Rafa has done with Alonso and that the club do not want his services anymore. Juventus director Jean-Claude Blanc held discussions with the Liverpool officials on Tuesday and a sum of £12 million is in the offing.

Juventus finished third in the Italian Serie A table in 2007-2008 and shall play in the UEFA Champions League next season. Juve therefore are ready to strenghten their squad in the summer.

Besides Juventus, Spanish duo Real Madrid and FC Barcelona are also reported to be keen on landing the player should Liverpool agree.
