Manchester United and Chelsea are unlikely to land the signature of Lille striker Jonathan David during the January transfer window.
The Canadian striker has been heavily linked with a Premier League move over the years and he is on the radar of United and Chelsea.
It was recently reported that Lille could accept a cut-price fee for the marksman in January with his contract expiring next summer.
However, the French outfit have now decided against parting ways with the striker and they are prepared to lose him on a free transfer instead.
David has been in exceptional form for Les Dogues this campaign. He has registered 15 goals and two assists from 22 appearances thus far.
Four of those goals have come in the Champions League and he is unlikely to be short of offers. He is free to negotiate a pre-contract next month.
Lille are currently pushing for another year in the Champions League and the finances involved are important to them than cashing in on David.
