Real Madrid are exploring the possibility of signing Arsenal target and Real Sociedad midfielder Martin Zubimendi at the end of the season, according to The Athletic.
The Gunners are long-term admirers of the Spain international and talks are ongoing behind the scenes to land him. Manager Mikel Arteta has personally spoken with the midfielder to convince him.
Arsenal are prepared to trigger the €60 million release clause to bring Zubimendi to the Emirates, but they could face unexpected competition from the European champions in the coming months.
Carlo Ancelotti's side are looking to add more quality in their ranks and a new holding midfielder could be pursued. Zubimendi has been discussed as a possible target for the Madrid heavyweights.
Arsenal remain optimistic of landing Zubimendi ahead of other suitors, but they may have to agree personal terms at the earliest so that Madrid don't hijack their planned deal at the end of the season.
