Getafe want Valverde

Getafe want Valverde

24 May 2008 - 13:10

Spanish side Getafe are reportedly in eagerness to offer the want-away coach of fellow Spanish side Espanyol Barcelona Ernesto Valverde as their coach next season.

  • Chelsea join Liverpool & Man Utd in race to sign 26yo
  • Barcelona identify Arsenal midfielder as key transfer target

  • Getafe have already parted company with their coach for the 2007-2008 season Michael Laudrup who is slated to move onto a bigger club (most likely FC Sevilla) and the third Madrid side, that is Getafe, are agog to move fast and appoint a new coach.

They have expressed a keen interest in appointing the 44-year old Valderde whose tenure at Catalan side Espanyol appears to move towards a dead end.

Much of the discontent of Espanyol over Valverde stems from the fact that he couldn't sustain the rise in the early part of the season. Espanyol finished an astonishing fourth in the first half of the 2007-2008 season but failed to win any match after the winter break and slided down spectacularly into the 12th position.

That has flared up reports that Espanyol do not want him anymore. Ernesto Valverde is still highly rated in Spain as a coach and although he has been offered a job at Greek giants Olimpiakos, he is said to prefer Spain more.
