Chelsea have hijacked Manchester United's move to sign Geovany Quenda from Sporting Lisbon, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Quenda was earmarked as manager Ruben Amorim's top target for the summer and it was reported that United were leading the race.
The club had spoken with the player's representatives in recent weeks and Record claimed that a transfer has already been reserved.
However, there has been a major twist to the story. Chelsea have now won the race to sign the Portuguese wonderkid in a deal worth £50m.
The 17-year-old has already undergone his medical with the Blues. He is expected to formally join them during the summer of 2026.
The news is a huge setback for the Red Devils, considering Amorim was optimistic of a reunion with the highly-rated Portuguese starlet.
United will now need to explore the transfer market for a quality alternative. Southampton's Tyler Dibling could be a possible option.
Spurs and Aston Villa are also interested in the Saints graduate.
