Manchester United are expected to sign a new midfielder when the transfer window reopens at the turn of the year, according to Fabrizio Romano.
The Mancunian giants were initially keen on landing Brighton & Hove Albion star Carlos Baleba over the summer, but the Seagulls made it clear that he won't be sold for another year at least.
United looked into a deal for Angelo Stiller thereafter but they received a similar message from Stuttgart. A loan deal was explored for Conor Gallagher, but Atletico Madrid were not keen on such a proposal.
As a result, the club did not reinforce their midfield department, but Romano reports that the situation will be addressed during the winter transfer window.
The Red Devils are expected to build a list of suitable targets to be presented to the manager. A decision will be made on whom to pursue in the coming months.
The club would ideally prefer someone with Premier League experience.
