  • “It is a great feeling,” he told Calcio Parlato. “I am very excited to come to Palermo, which is a great place in every sense.

“I knew for a long time that the Sicilians were watching me and they came to an agreement with Empoli a few days ago, leaving me to settle terms today. It will be a four-year contract.

“To be the successor to Barzagli and Zaccardo will be a great motivation to me because they are top-class defenders.

“It will be tough, but I am here to do well and change this team’s fortunes.

“I don’t know any of Palermo’s staff personally, not even Coach Stefano Colantuono, but I have followed his career from Atalanta to Palermo and I look forward to working with him.”
